Manager/Musical Director – Salisbury Area Young Musicians
Contract – in the region of £10,000 per annum
Salisbury Area Young Musicians is the thriving home of ensemble music making in Salisbury for children and young people. From September 2026 we have a vacancy for the role of Manager/Musical Director in our organisation.

With fifteen different bands, choirs and orchestras rehearsing weekly during the school year, Salisbury Area Young Musicians (SAYM) is one of Wiltshire’s largest young musicians’ club – saym.org.uk
For this freelance post the Board of Trustees is seeking a candidate who is a highly skilled musician with experience of running ensembles and events, who has an enthusiasm and ability to develop a vision for taking the organisation forward. They should have the ability to appropriately delegate tasks to the SAYM Administrator and experience in managing other personnel/tutors is an advantage. The successful candidate will have a commitment to, and understanding of, the value of music and the arts to young peoples’ development. They should have the ability to work flexibly and, where necessary, be available in evenings and weekends. The manager should have strong collaborative skills, but also the ability to work independently and to manage their own time.

Swindon & Wiltshire Music Hub
We’re looking for three experienced Associate Tutors to represent our freelance workforce and help shape the future of music education across our region.

The Role
As an Associate Tutor Representative, you’ll be the voice of freelance tutors in your area, creating vital communication channels between our teaching community and the Music Hub leadership. You’ll gather feedback, contribute to policy development, and help build a stronger, more connected workforce.
Three positions available covering:
- Swindon area
- North Wiltshire
- South Wiltshire
What’s Involved
- Term: 18 months (with option to continue)
- Time commitment: Approximately 2 days per month (half a day a week), 11 months per year (September–July)
- Fee: £240.21 per day (£33.13 per hour, 7.25 hours)
- Meetings: Quarterly sessions with GSW Swindon & Wiltshire, plus regular tutor consultations in your area
Who We’re Looking For
- Minimum 36 months’ service as an Associate Tutor with us
- Active teaching portfolio (at least 10 hours per month over the previous 6 months)
- Good standing within the associate workforce
- Strong communication and advocacy skills
- Commitment to representing diverse tutor perspectives
